Fall So Far

So this fall has had a lot of ups and downs. Andrew died in September, then Tim's grandmother passed away last Monday. So we've been to two funerals within 30 days.
Grandma Rohrer's funeral was beautiful-people shared memories, played music, and sang songs in her memory. She had almost everything planned and written out ahead of time, which made it easier on the family.
We also had some good things: our first wedding anniversary, which we spent in Washington, DC, birthdays, wedding preparations for Matt and Susie's shindig next July, and visits with family.

This past weekend was a crazy mix of everything.
My favorite photo:
This is our nephew, and he is smiling big now:)

Work, however, feels like it's slowly going downhill. I feel like I'm saying no to more people than I'm saying yes to, which is in part due to the state budget/economy. However, I did not spend 4 years in college studying childhood development and psychology to tell people I can't help them, which is what I feel like I'm doing. I would love to find a happier job or go back to school for something that will get me out of working civil service jobs. The government is depressing. Also, being in and out of houses is making me extra sensitive to germs this time of year. I have hand sanitizer on my desk and in my car. I do not what the kids at Ship have been calling "the oink".

On the apartment front, we've started organizing and I've been counting down the days until we get to haul all of our stuff down the road to our new location in mid-December...I can't wait. Haven't seen the maintenance man for awhile now. Grr.

Apartment Update:)

So, given that our apartment has seen better days and we're feeling cramped in a one bedroom, we've been hunting for a new apartment with a patio/balcony and a second bedroom.
We got lucky and found a nice place on the top floor of an apartment complex down the road from where we already are. So we'll be leaving here in mid-December, just in time to decorate our new apartment for Christmas!
And we'll have extra space, so when people visit, they have somewhere to sleep that's not the couch:)
Our plan is to stick around the Philly area for about a year or more to save up a decent down payment for our first house, then try to move closer to Gettysburg so we can be near family and friends from back home.

So I guess I should start packing. It'll take 2 months to get everything sorted out:P

Washington

This was taken from the hill at the top of Arlington National Cemetery, which Tim and I visited on our trip to Washington last week to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We only stayed one night, but we hit Arlington, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Old Post Office, and we walked past the White House in the rain.

OCTOBER

Welcome to October, which, if you live in the Philly area, is also known as "RED OCTOBER" because the Phillies are the NLEast champs for the third straight year.

Anyway. My resolution for October is to hit the gym once a day every day that we're home. And hopefully, after 31 days, the habit will stick and I won't feel like a whale once New Years passes. Because, oh my God, the food at the holidays. Last year, we had 3 Thanksgivings and 5 Christmases. I think we're still recovering.

That, and there's a bridesmaid dress shopping experience looming in the near future that I'm unprepared for.

The third reason is the loss of an old friend from Biglerville. On Saturday, Sept. 26, a good friend, teacher, and mentor of mine from my high school days chose to take his own life for reasons that seem...inadequate...in retrospect. Laying him to rest yesterday was difficult because I still haven't quite accepted that he's gone, as it was a huge surprise. He was a very passionate person, and in honor of that, I chose to pick one area of my life that could use some work and try to be as passionate about it as I can. And if that area doesn't work, I'll move on to something else. Until I find a niche. I thought it was a good way of honoring his memory while making a positive change for myself, and my physical health seems like a good place to start.

That's all for now, Internet. I'll keep you posted.
